Dream Diaries: Weddings, Waves, and What It All Means

By

Have you ever woken up from a dream that left you feeling puzzled, intrigued, or even a little shaken up? Dreams are like little movies our minds create while we sleep and they’re filled with symbols, emotions, and messages that feel just out of reach. I recently had one last night that has been on my mind this morning:

I was in a wedding party, enjoying the reception on a beach. The vibe was beautiful, like something out of a destination wedding Pinterest board. The sun was setting, the golden hour was definitely in the room. But out of nowhere, a massive tidal wave came crashing onto the shore, flooding the area and completely destroying the building where we all gathered. I remember the panic of trying to escape but also this eerie calm when I woke up.

So, what does it all mean?

When it comes to dream interpretations, it’s important to remember that your subconscious is highly personal. However, there are some general themes that might help us unpack this.

Weddings in Dreams

Weddings are often tied to themes of commitment, union, or new beginnings. Whether it’s romantic, professional, or even a commitment to yourself, a wedding in a dream might symbolize a significant change or transition happening in your life.

In my case, the beach setting suggests that this change might feel tied to emotions, as water is often linked to our feelings and inner states. The ocean itself could symbolize the vastness of possibility, or even uncertainty around this shift.

Tidal Waves

Now, let’s talk about that wave friend because if the dream were real, I’d be gone. A tidal wave often represents overwhelming emotions or a situation that feels out of control. It could mean you’re facing something big, or maybe even a little scary that you need to navigate. The fact that it flooded the entire building might signify that this event has the potential to disrupt something you’ve built or feel secure in.

Interestingly, waves can also be cleansing, wiping away the old to make room for the new. If you’ve been holding onto things that no longer serve you, this wave might symbolize the push you need to let go.

Putting It Together

So, how do we interpret the full dream? To me, it feels like this: I’m entering a new phase of life—one filled with opportunities and big emotions. The wedding could be pointing to a commitment or change, while the wave warns that the transition might be intense but ultimately transformative.

I can’t help but think about the ways I’m being called to grow right now. Maybe the dream is a reminder to lean into the change instead of resisting it.

Your Turn

Dreams are deeply personal, so if you’ve had a similar one, ask yourself:

  • What’s currently changing in my life?
  • Am I feeling overwhelmed by emotions or a particular situation?
  • What am I being called to release or embrace?

Dreams are our subconscious speaking to us, and it’s always worth taking a moment to listen.
