Happy Friday!
There’s this saying that goes, “If something is out of your control, it should be out of your mind.” And honestly, I’ve been letting that marinate lately. As black Americans, as parents, as everything-to-everybody, we’re constantly trying to fix, plan, and manage every aspect of life. But let’s be real: not everything is ours to fix. Some things whether they’re relationships, situations, or just people acting a fucking fool, are completely out of our hands.
So, why are we giving those things so much space in our minds? Why are we losing sleep, wasting valuable moments of life doubting ourselves, or holding on to stress that isn’t even ours to carry? The truth is, every moment you spend on something you can’t control is a moment stolen from you. Stolen from your peace, your joy, your time and energy.
Let’s make this year about choosing us friend. Choosing peace. Choosing joy. Choosing to let go of what we can’t control and pouring that energy back into ourselves. It’s okay to step back. It’s okay to say, “This isn’t my burden.” And it’s more than okay to focus on your own well-being without guilt.
So the next time life throws you something chaotic, ask yourself: Is this mine to fix? If the answer is no, then baby, it’s not yours to stress about either. Put it down, take a deep breath, and choose you. Because when you prioritize your peace, you’re unstoppable.
And as my baby daddy’s other baby momma would say, have a great day on purpose!
To know me is to know me. ㋡
Xoxo, Drea
