The 5-4-3-2-1 Grocery Game

By

Listen, grocery shopping should not feel like an Olympic sport, yet here I am, dodging overpriced organic kale and resisting the siren song of the snack aisle like my life depends on it. But I stumbled across this little gem of a grocery strategy—the 5-4-3-2-1 Method—and I think it just might save my cart (and my waistline) from the usual chaos.

Here’s how it breaks down:

• 5 veggies – Because apparently, balance isn’t just about avoiding a cart full of beige foods.

• 4 fruits – Nature’s candy, minus the guilt.

• 3 proteins – Gotta keep the gains… or at least keep from being hangry by noon.

• 2 grains – Just enough to carb-load responsibly.

• 1 sauce – The glue that holds all this healthy nonsense together.

Simple, right? I’m convinced this is the kind of structured chaos my grocery trips need. No more wandering the aisles like a lost toddler or impulse-buying. This method gives just enough freedom to keep things interesting while keeping me accountable for real meals instead of ordering out.

I’ll be test-driving this on my next grocery run, so if you see me side-eyeing the ice cream section, mind your business friend. Have y’all tried this? Or are we all still winging it and hoping for the best?

Xoxo, Drea
