One Go, We All Go: Living, Loving & Building a Global Legacy in Japan

By

This is a dream journal entry. A manifestation in motion. A glimpse into the life I’m intentionally creating for my family.

It all started with his big yes.

When my husband was offered the opportunity to lead a major expansion for his company’s tech division in Tokyo, I watched him move with prayer, precision, and purpose. He didn’t hesitate. He saw the vision not just for himself but for us.

“One go, we all go,” he said with certainty.

And just like that, our new life in Japan began on faith, in alignment, and with deep intention.

6:30 AM — Sunrises & Strong Starts

We wake up every morning in a high-rise condo that feels like a dream. Our windows overlook Tokyo’s skyline, and on clear days, Mt. Fuji peeks at us in the distance. My husband kisses my shoulder before diving into his morning meetings with his Tokyo-based team with his tea in hand, linen shirt crisp, calm as ever.

And just like clockwork, Dru stumbles into our bed rubbing her eyes. He lifts her up with a soft, “Good morning, Baby Girl,” and takes her to the kitchen for banana pancakes and fruit tea. It’s their little morning tradition.

8:15 AM — School Drop-Offs & Soft Commutes

Dru wears the sweetest yellow hat and leather randoseru backpack for preschool. She skips down the cherry blossom-lined streets while we walk hand-in-hand behind her. Her school is a small, nurturing space full of art, music, and culture.

After drop-off, we stop at a hidden café for lattes. This is our moment to breathe together before the day picks up again.

“I love seeing you like this,” he tells me often. “Soft. Settled.”

10:00 AM — My Flow, My Focus

With Dru in school and my husband in work mode, I pour into me.

Some days I’m journaling or mapping out blog content from a cozy café tucked behind a bookstore. Other mornings I’m building out digital products under The Black Print Co., creating content for Pinterest or Etsy, or attending a traditional Japanese wellness class.

But don’t get it twisted, this isn’t a sabbatical. I’m still very much in my bag.

Since relocating to Asia, I’ve tapped into some of the finest raw hair vendors. I’ve walked the factories, touched every bundle, and built real relationships all while cutting out the middlemen and curating hair that’s unmatched in quality.

Every few weeks, I send exclusive bundles back to my braid bar in Maryland. My stylists are thriving with premium inventory, and our salon reputation? Elevating by the day.

Outsourcing globally. Scaling locally. That’s the energy we’re on.

2:30 PM — After School Adventures

Once Dru’s out of school, our afternoons are full of exploration. One day it’s soft serve in Yoyogi Park, the next it’s a trip to the Ghibli Museum. Sometimes we feed koi fish or hop on the train to a neighboring town just for snacks and people-watching.

Her laugh is louder here. Her spirit, freer. She’s becoming more her each day.

6:00 PM — Family Dinners & Tokyo Nights

Our evenings are magic.

Dinner might be at home with 90’s r&b playing and rice and salmon bowls on the stove, or we might head out to a nearby izakaya where Dru gets treated like a little celebrity.

We’ve found our circle here! Black expats, creatives, families who love deeply and live intentionally. We rotate dinner parties and culture nights, blending home traditions with Japanese flavor. Dru gets loved on from every direction.

9:00 PM — Pillow Talk & Prayers

When Dru’s fast asleep, the city twinkling outside our window, that’s when the sacred moments hit.

We talk about land back in the States. More kids. Generational wealth. Our next five-year vision.

“I didn’t just come here to lead a team,” he told me once.

“I came here to create room for you to live softer.”

That part.

This chapter in Japan isn’t a detour, it’s destiny. It’s the alignment of love, purpose, motherhood, and ambition. It’s what happens when two people make space for each other to win, and a little girl grows up witnessing softness, success, and culture in the same breath.

We’re not running from anything.

We’re living what we once prayed for.

Together.

One go, we all go.

That’s how we move. 💮

Xoxo, Drea
